A gold lacquer box and cover in the form of a boat

Meiji Period
The removable roof forming the lid to the upper structure which is affixed to the deck, all embellished in gold takamakie, kirikane, hiramakie and e-nashiji, the roof with chidori in flight above pine trees, each rectangular side of the cabin decorated with a different, flowering tree whilst the side of the boat is lacquered with stylised waves, the interior and underside of rich nashiji, the stern of kinji, unsigned, with wood storage box. 14cm x 33.5cm (5½in x 13¼in).
