An unusual bronze lantern

Late Edo/Meiji Period
In the form of a metamorphic monkey, seated facing ahead, with its hands resting on its raised knees and a door at the back through which to insert the light, the creature with various orifices about its person for light and creeping peach branches trailing over its body, partly forming a looped handle over its head, unsigned. 33.5cm (13¼in) high.
