Wilfred Randolph Brown was a well-known and respected property developer in Liverpool during the 1920s and 1930s. In 1935, he commissioned his son, Neville Montague Beresford, an architect by profession, to design and build a country home, The Chase, for his family in twelve acres of land outside the village of Great Sutton on the Wirral. The Chase was developed in the art deco style incorporating many features and fittings of that period. In addition to collecting artefacts from Europe and the Far East, Wilfred and his wife Francis Eliza also chose to furnish their home in the contemporary style and the three Gerald Summers offered here were purchased around this time.
