An exhibition standard model of the American clipper ship Witch of the Wave
Ray Langdon (American, 20th century)

the hull and deck are built up in plank-on-frame construction. The hull planked in cherry veneer and the deck in spruce with the grain acting as planking lines. The lower portion of the hull is absent the planking and shows the hull framing which is of basswood. The decks are detailed with pin and fife rails, bit posts, capstans, anchor winch and chain, deck hatches with rings, deck houses in basswood with mahogany trim, windows and doors, boats lashed to deck house roof, bilge pump, sky lights, companionway, binnacle, wheel and other details. Rigged with a bow sprit and three masts, the lower sections painted black, cross spars (all painted black), standing and running rigging, flags and other details. Displayed on a pair of turned brass pedestals within a mahogany glass framed case with a faux ivory plaque inscribed: Clipper Ship Witch of the Wave/Built 1851-Portsmouth, New Hampshire/Home Port-Boston, Massachusetts.
