A rare American Aesthetic Movement iced tea set
Reed & Barton (American, 19th and 20th centuries), circa 1878

[in plate], to commemorate the launching of the ship William H. Macy, including a pair of goblets, a raised sugar bowl, a pitcher with a hinged lid and a tray with applied decorated handles. Each decorated along the body with a chased and engraved floral and foliate motifs, with geometric borders around the waists of the cups and sugar bowl; and around the base, collar and top of the pitcher, the pitcher also insulated; and the border of the tray. Each engraved Ship William H. Macy except the pitcher which is engraved Ship William H. Macy/Presented by/William H. Macy. Each struck with the Reed & Barton white hollow mark, pattern number 1863.

Footnotes

The ship William H. Macy was built in Rockport, Maine in 1883. She had an overall length of of 249.9 ft. and a gross weight of 2,202 tons. Her home port in 1902 was San Francisco. She was for William H. Macy who was President of the Seaman's Bank for Savings. It was accompanied with an original William H. Macy calendar and other paperwork.
