An exhibition standard model of a late 17th century the 96 gun ship of the line

the hull is built up in plank on solid construction with the bottom of the hull left un-finished to show the planking and the trunnels, the topsides are painted black with the double waist bands painted white, between the gun decks which are pierced for 96 cannons. Along the topsides, above the main gun deck, is decorated with painted gold bows, the uppermost deck the gunports are enclosed with gunport wreaths which are finished in gold. The trail-boards and headrails are carved and painted gold, supporting a carved lion which is also painted gold. The transom and quarter galleries are detailed with windows and balconies that are carved and painted with a rose background and gold details. The decks are laid veneer which has been stained with the planking lines drawn in India ink, and detailed with anchors, pin and fife rails, bell with belfry, railings, stove pipe, capstan, ladders, cannons rigged on carriages, a pair of boats on deck, skylight, companion way, doors and windows on deck cabins and numerous other details. Rigged with a bow sprit with a short mast, and three masts, the mizzen rigged with a lateen spanker spar, cross spars, tops and trees, standing and running rigging. Displayed on a simple wood cradle within a mahogany framed glass case.
