An exhibition standard model of a British sloop of war
British, 20th century

the hull built up from the solid, carved and faired to shape, the lower decks hallowed and built out with decking and lower deck details. The bottom of the hull is copper plated and the topsides are painted black with a white waist, cut with 12 gun ports, the rail fitted with hammock boxes, the decks are of maple veneer with the planking lines scored and darkened. The decks are fitted with bit heads, ladders, pin and fife rails, long boat lashed to the center deck, buckets, coils of line, framed open hatches showing the interior lower decks, 12 cannons rigged on carriages, three additional boats on davits around the stern. Rigged with a bow sprit and three masts, cross spars with stun'sail booms, and standing and running rigging. Displayed in a mahogany framed glass on a simple wood cradle.
