A huanghuali low table, kangzhuo
17th-18th century
The elegant table raised on slightly curved four legs with hoof feet, the shaped aprons finely carved in low relief on the long sides with a foliate scroll with a tri-lobed petal in its centre flanked by a pair of striding chilong dragons, each of the aprons on the short sides similarly carved with a tri-lobed petal.

The carving on the apron is comparable to chilong decorated examples attributed to the late 16th to early 17th century, such as the one illustrated by G. Wu Bruce, Living in the Ming - the Lu Ming Shi Collection, Hong Kong, 2000, pls.24 and 39; the hoof shaped feet are similar to those on a couch bed, ibid., pl.53.
