An unusual gourd brush-holder netsuke

19th century
Formed from a small double gourd, overlaid with trailing kiri leaves in silver and shakudo, the silver stopper incorporating a brush and a roped silver band around the waist with a loose ring himotoshi, unsigned. 7.6cm (3in).
