An ebony or kurogaki-wood netsuke of a turtle

By Kanman, Iwami, early 19th century
The reptile almost hidden within its shell, the central part of which is detachable to form the himotoshi, the wood is slightly worn and the eyes are inlaid with horn, signed Iwami no kuni, Kanman to with kao. 4.5cm (1¾in).
