A shakudo kozuka

By Goto Tenjo (Mitsuhira), 19th century
Bearing a nanako ground carved in relief and inlaid with three fireflies over swirling water, with floating aoi leaves and tendrils, the lowest end of 'cat-scratched' gold, signed Goto Mitsuhira with kao; with wood storage box. (2).

For the maker, see Haynes, Index, no.H.09536. Goto Tenjo, known as Mitsuhira or Mitsunori, was the seventeenth and last master of the main Goto School. His adopted son Joichi became a student of Kano Natsuo.
