Meiji Period
The elegant go board is raised on four integral low bulbous legs, all four sides finely embellished in gold, silver and iroe-takamakie and hiramakie, enhanced by details in kirikane with a continuous design of motifs taken from the Hatsune (The First Warbler) chapter of the Genji Monogatari, all reserved on a rich nashiji ground, the underside also of nashiji, unsigned; with two en suite gold-lacquered goke (bowls) and covers, similarly decorated with a complementary design, containing black and white goishi (stones); with two double wood storage boxes. 27.3cm x 41.3cm x 45.1cm (10¾in x 14¼in x 17¾in), both bowls 10.1cm (4in) high.
