Attributed to Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769-1825)

Circa 1810
Two shikishiban surimono, both depicting the actor Ichikawa Danjuro, the first in the lead role of a Shibaraku play, with a child in the role of Ebisu and a monkey holding a sake cup, four poems above, signed Toyokuni ga, 20cm x 17½cm (7 7/8in x 6 7/8in); the second in the role of Yamagatsu Kirikabu no Onoemon, a poem above by Shibaju, signed Toyokuni ga, 21.4cm x 18cm (8½in x 7 1/8in).
