A rare Spanish sword for presentation to Prince Takamatsu

Toledo, 20th century
The almost straight blade with shaped panels, carved leaves and Spanish heraldry, a sixteen-petal kiku-mon to one side, inscribed on one side J A Fca NACIONAL DE TOLEDO S.A.I. EL PRINCIPE TAKAMATSU, the translation on the other side Hou Takamatsu no miya denka, Toledo buki seisakujo (Presented to Prince Takamatsu, Toledo weapon manufactory); in black lacquer saya and tsuka with a gold kiku-mon in gold hiramakie. The blade 65cm (29½in) long.

Prince Takamatsu visited Spain in 1930 when he was presented with the sword by the Spanish Royal Family.
