A Wajima lacquer katana-kake (sword stand) for a daisho

By Nishimura Shoitsu (b.1957), 20th century
Bearing a rich kinji ground and decorated in gold takamakie with a river and montain scene, details in e-nashiji and kirigane, the upright sides with trailing flowerheads; with tomobako titled and signed by the artist Shoitsu saku with seal Shoitsu. 43.2cm x 35cm (17in x 13¾in). (2).

山水図蒔絵刀掛 西村松逸 20世紀

Nishimura Shoitsu comes from a long line of lacquerers based in the port town of Wajima, where lacquer wares have been produced since the fourteenth century, although fine gold lacquer was not produced until much later.
