A last quarter of the 17th century bracket clock movement and dial

Thomas Bagley, Londini
The 9.25 inch square brass dial with original thin chapter ring, now turned around and re-engraved in the late 18th century style, with matted centre and blued steel hands to the twin chain fusee movement united by eight knopped and finned pillars with converted anchor escapement and engraved external countwheel striking on a bell 28cm (11in) high.

Footnotes

This movement has survived approximately 340 years and in that time has been removed from its original case and converted to conform to later fashion and technology. It is apparent that the clock was fitted with an added arch and two applied cartouches to the matted centre. Most importantly, the original maker's signature has never been concealed and the original engraved chapter ring can be easily re-instated by reversing the lugs (no extra holes were drilled into the dialplate when the ring was reversed).
