A rare early 19th century Austrian patinated bronze and ormolu grande sonnerie striking mantel clock

Cast as a walking monkey on a naturalistic panel mounted on a plinth cast with a running anthemion border on stylised acorn feet, the simian carrying a grape hopper on his back which in turn supports a well cast barrel draped with vine leaves and grapes, the 2.75 inch enamel Roman dial with blued steel spade hands, the spring driven movement with silk suspension to the short verge bob pendulum housed within the barrel cavity, striking the quarters and hours on a a pair of circular section blued steel coiled gongs 29cms (11,5ins) high.
