Verdier, a Paris
The waisted case surmounted by a putto set on a sphere, a scarf billowing behind him, over elaborate foliate scrolls, glazed side apertures and a shaped door mounted with a figure of young Chronos, a sand glass in his left hand (scythe lacking), on scroll feet, the original wall bracket with central step over a cast frieze and a pair of cherubs heads to the front corners, the panels of horn interspersed with engraved brass scrolls, the cast dial with twenty five applied enamel numerals consisting of black-figured Arabic five minute plaques, blue Roman hour marks and a central signature plate, with original worked steel hands, the movement with shaped plates signed in an upward curve to the lower edge of the backplate, with outside click, the movement formerly with verge escapement repeating the quarters but now with 19th century wheelwork and anchor escapement

The crowned C was stamped by law to indicate that duty had been paid on items containing copper, produced in the second half of the 1740s.
