A fine late 18th century French ormolu mantel clock

Ridel, Paris
Surmounted by a cherub holding a flag in a triumphal pose, over applied vine branches replete with bunches of grapes, the base set with a pair of cherubs heralding the victory, and further martial trophies including a breast plate, a quiver of arrows, axes, shields and upturned helmets, the shaped base applied with swags of oak leaves and lightning bolts, all raised on boldly cast lions feet, the signed enamel Arabic dial with Arabic quarter hour numerals and pierced hands, the associated 19th century movement with Brocot style escapement and rack striking on a bell 61cms (2ft) high.
