Anonymous, 19th century

A pair of six-fold screens, both painted in ink, colour, urushi and moriage relief on a gold-leaf paper ground; one screen depicting an elegant gosho-guruma (ox-cart) resting behind a brushwood fence rendered in gold moriage and entwined with white bellflowers; the other with an elaborately lacquered flower cart bearing a basket of mixed peonies, kiku and irises; unsigned. Each screen 91cm x 272.4cm (35 7/8in x 107¼in). (2).
