Footnotes

Provenance:
Ambika Dhurandhar, the artist's daughter.
Private UK collection since 1995.

Executed in 1892.

The scene lies in Dhurandhar's family home, where he was brought up before he moved to Bombay. His command in this picture of both British and Parisian fin-de-siecle chalk drawing hence strongly conveys subjectively-felt affection and warmth.
