A Kashan lustre pottery border Tile
Persia, 12th Century

half-star with five points, decorated in a brownish lustre with split palmettes and floral motif, the border with a band of nakshi inscription

The inscription consists of verses from the Qur'an, sura al-Fatiha (I) and sura al-Ikhlas (CXII).

Comparisons can be drawn from a panel of tiles from the Imanzadeh Yahya at Veramin dated Dhu'l-Hijja AH660-661/ AD 1262, now housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum, see Watson, Oliver, Persian Lustre Ware, London, 1985, col. pl. K.
