A Georgian 6pdr Bronze Cannon

with shortened chase, muzzle removed. Bearing on the 1st reinforce the Royal cypher for George lll and on the chase the monogram for Lord Mulgrave, Master General of the Ordnance (1810-1819). Embossed on the 2nd reinforce ring with the number MDCCLII and drilled with two holes, possibly for a foresight, and on the 1st reinforce ring "H&C King 1814". The cascabel with Blomefield pattern ring and mount for elevating screw, quarter sight markings to either side and stamped underneath with the weight 6~0~6. Fitted with a later adjustable brass rear sight stamped "ll 1866 6pr. Bronze Gun s.s. No.1752. RGF WD" with broad arrow. 53in(134.5cm) long.

Footnotes

Henry and Cornelius King. Henry appointed Master Founder at Woolwich in 1813 after the death of his brother and worked with his nephew Cornelius, appointed Assistant Founder, their names appearing together until Henry retired in 1818. The post of Master of the Brass Foundry was abolished on Henry's retirement, Cornelius continuing as Acting Founder until his own retirement in 1822.
