comprising an oak lidded snuff or trinket box with an inset copper plaque inscribed "Royal George sunk 1782" 10x5x2.5cm(4x2x1in) and a small volume "A Narrative of the Loss of the Royal George, by Admiral Durham, 7th edition, published by S Horsey Portsea 1844" with oak cover leaves from the wreck. 11x7x2cm(4.3x2.7x0.8in) (2)

The tragic loss of HMS Royal George at Spithead in 1782 with nearly 900 people including Admiral Kempenfelt captured the public imagination. Large amounts of recovered timber and copper were made into souvenir items at this period.
